What is Product Hierarchy in Skyjed? Overview

Categorise and organise products using the Product Hierarchy feature.

OVERVIEW

Introduction to Product Hierarchy

Product Hierarchy is a powerful feature that allows organisations to categorise and organise their products in a more structured manner. It gives organisations the flexibility to tailor the structure to their specific requirements.

By adding additional Layers to the Product Hierarchy, organisations can better manage the relationships between different Product categories and portfolios.

The default layer in Skyjed accounts is the Product Layer, which can be customised with specific details to meet each organisation's unique needs.

The Product Hierarchy plays a crucial role in facilitating the dissemination of information within your organisation. It allows for easy cascading of product information whenever it is needed.

By structuring Products in a hierarchical manner, organisations can ensure that information is organised, accessible and consistent across layers.

With Product Hierarchy, organisations can gain a better understanding of the relationships between different Product categories and portfolios.

This understanding can help to make informed decisions about product conditions, product development, and regulatory or distribution requirements to name a few.

Overall, the Product Hierarchy feature in Skyjed provides organisations with a powerful tool to categorise, organise, and manage Products effectively.

It enhances your organisation's ability to make data-driven decisions and ensures that consistent information is easily accessible to all stakeholders and related Products.

Typical examples of additional Product Hierarchy Layers include:

  • Category, subcategory, and product layer
  • Parent, child, and product layer
  • Cluster, subcluster, and product layer
  • Division, category, and product layer

You may need to upgrade your Skyjed subscription to access additional Product Hierarchy Layers. If you have any questions, or for more information, contact the Skyjed Team here.

Using Product Hierarchy

Setting and managing Product Hierarchy Layers in Skyjed involves 5 key steps that are essential for organising and maintaining your organisation's products effectively.

1. Setting up your organisation's Product Hierarchy

The first step is to define and set up your organisation's Product Hierarchy. This is a one-time setup that is managed by the Skyjed Administrator role via the Settings page.

2. Managing Products within the Product Hierarchy

After the Product Hierarchy is set up, Product Owners can allocate the required Product Hierarchy layer to existing or new products.

3. Sharing Product information within the Product Hierarchy

To share common information from higher Product Hierarchy Layer Products to lower Product Hierarchy Layer Products, the higher-level product must complete and publish a Design or Audit template that includes the same drivers used by the lower-level product.

4. Inheriting Product information within the Product Hierarchy

Within the Product Hierarchy, lower-level Products can inherit cascaded product information from higher-level products via drivers that they have in common. This information is read-only at the lower level and cannot be edited or overwritten while the cascade is active.

5. Stop Sharing Product information within the Product Hierarchy

This involves removing certain products from the hierarchy or removing the information sharing link between products. This may be needed when a product has reached the end of its lifecycle or when you no longer want lower-level products to inherit information from higher-level products.

By following these key steps, your organisation can effectively set up and manage the Product Hierarchy in Skyjed, ensuring clear categorisation, streamlined information sharing, and efficient product management.
